Dear Metro Members and Staff,

I hope this finds you and your family safe and healthy during these challenging times. Thank you for your continued support of our team at Metro Fitness.

We wanted to take this time to update you on our preparations for re-opening. NYS four phases are somewhat vague, however, it looks like fitness facilities will be a part of Phase 3 or Phase 4. We are in the process of submitting a first phase to the county to, at the least, allow supervised personal training to begin in Phase 2, June 1st. Each re-opening business must develop a written Safety Plan of compliance outlining how its workplace will prevent the spread of COVID-19. This plan does not need to be submitted to a state agency for approval but must be retained on the premises of the business and must be made available to the New York State Department of Health (DOH) or local health or safety authorities in the event of an inspection.

Below is a general outline of our phased plan. Know that phases and plans are tentative, and we could be forced to alter based on government orders and mandates.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created uncertain times and resulted in unprecedented changes. As communicated throughout this re-opening action plan for Metro Fitness, I am prioritizing the health of our employees and members every step of the way. We will execute on our plan cautiously, following applicable state and local guidance as much as possible. I also understand that each employee and member needs, and situation will be different as our doors begin to reopen.

This action plan, which pulls from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidance, highlights the responsibilities of Metro employees, members and outlines the steps we are taking to address COVID-19.

NYS Phase 2, June 1st (tentative based on NYS Phase reopening)

 Metro Fitness Initial Re-Opening Phase

Downtown – Limited and supervised Personal Training + Virtual Training Available

Initially, we will carefully open only Metro Downtown in accordance with public health guidelines and in a manner that safeguards the health and well-being of our members and team. Opening both clubs simultaneously simply presents too many challenges and our downtown club is a smaller environment to control and keep disinfected.

In this first phase, it looks like we will only be able to allow supervised and scheduled Personal Training sessions.

Member Access: All staff and members will be required to have their temperature (forehead) taken prior to entering the club at the reception station. All Metro personal trainers will be accepting clients back into their schedules by appointment. Our East trainers will be working out of the downtown club during Metro’s phase one.

Safety Precautions and Measures:  The Metro team and members are expected to follow CDC guidelines for cleaning/disinfecting and social distancing. Here are just a few of the measures that we will implement:

  • High-traffic surfaces will be disinfected frequently during operating hours. We have purchased a high-quality backpack sprayer that allows quick and periodic distribution of disinfectant throughout the club each day.
  • Certain machines and areas of the gym may be marked as closed
  • No group fitness/PACK class.
  • Closed areas include the steam rooms.
  • In-club towel service will be suspended so members MUST bring in their own.
  • Water stations in the club will NOT be available so you must also bring in your own water bottle.
  • All desks, computers, phones, waiting area furniture & front desk surfaces will be disinfected multiple times during operating hours.
  • All floor surfaces will be vacuumed & disinfected daily.
  • All gym equipment & machines will be disinfected several times daily.
  • Team members will follow local guidelines with respect to wearing masks and gloves for your protection.
  • Team members will follow CDC guidelines to wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, avoid touching the face, and maintain a safe social distance from other people.
  • Club signage will remind members to wipe down equipment & machines thoroughly after use and maintain a 6-foot distance from your fellow members on the gym floor, in class, and in the locker rooms.
  • Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes will be available throughout the club.

June Membership Dues:

Because we are opening only our downtown club, the following options are available.

  • If you are financially able and willing to continue to support the club, your June dues will run as usual.
  • If you would like us to set up your account for June dues at $0 because you will not use the downtown location, please email randy@getmetrofit.com and I will have a "change of status" form set to you. There is NO penalty for this option, your account will go back to normal on your due date in July when we expect to have BOTH clubs open.
  • Another option for June is to request a $10 freeze, we can lower your dues and apply a "freeze" for up to 6 months, especially if you have lost your job but plan to return to Metro at a later date.

NYS Phase 3 or 4, (tentative based on NYS Phase reopening)

Metro Fitness 2nd Re-Opening Phase

Downtown – Limited and supervised Personal Training + Scheduled Independent Workout Sessions

Date and details to be determined and communicated in upcoming weekly member notice. Metro’s 2nd Phase will be based on NYS Phase reopening)

We will be adding in limited, schedule independent workout sessions. Any member who wishes to use the club independently will need to schedule their session. We are working with our club partners on logistics and will send out another communication with available gym times for your choosing. Likely, we will be utilizing our current Mind Body app, which is widely used in the fitness industry. Some members are already using the Mind Body app.

Member Access: All staff and members will be required to have their temperature (forehead) taken prior to entering the club at the reception station. All Metro personal trainers will be accepting clients back into their schedules by appointment. Our East trainers will be working out of the downtown club during Metro’s phase one.

  • Certain machines and areas of the gym may be marked as closed and group fitness/PACK class sizes will be regulated.
  • Closed areas could include, steam rooms, (waiting for guidelines from health officials about showers)
  • Locker rooms will be monitored. Locker keys issued at check in to maintain social distance.
  • In-club towel service will be suspended so members MUST bring in their own.
  • Water stations in the club will NOT be available so you must also bring in your own water bottle.

Metro Fitness 3rd Re-Opening Phase (date TBD)

Downtown – Limited and supervised Personal Training + Scheduled Independent Workout Sessions + Limited Pack and Group Training

Metro Fitness Final Re-Opening Phase: East  (date TBD)

Message to Metro East Members:

We understand that members, who have been dedicated to our East location for many years, may be feeling uneasy about utilizing our Downtown location until we can open both facilities. We encourage you to hang in there with us. We are in this together!

Please understand that we are making these tough decisions based on safety of you, our members, and our staff. This is first and foremost! Secondly, we are following the guidelines released on social gathering and social distancing. Opening two clubs at once would be more difficult to manage safety concerns and precautions.

If you would like a tour of the Downtown facility and equipment, our trainers and staff will be ready to show you around (tentatively starting June 1st) as well as provide parking recommendations.

Our hope is that after we get Downtown up & running, along with following these new guidelines consistently, we will open East – sooner than later!

Thank you so much for your kindness and support during this time. I cannot express how thankful my team and I are to be a part of your lives. If you have personal training sessions you will be hearing from your trainer about scheduling options. If you do not hear from your trainer, or if you would like to purchase sessions to begin working with a trainer, please email me, randy@getmetrofit.com

Sincerely,

Randy Sabourin, Club Owner
